For the last few months I’ve been working on developing a new project very different from what I have previously done. We’re still a long way away from completion, but this is such a large scale project and so unusual for me that I thought it couldn’t hurt to post some of the progress as I go.
The project is currently known by the working title of Radonus, after its main character, but this will be changed. It’s a fantasy-type story about a conniving and ambitious outsider who arrives in the otherwise isolationist town of Varzoun. Where he has come from and what he means to do there is a matter of some mystery. I conceive of him as a mixture of Grigori Rasputin, PT Barnum, and Thomas Edison.
There is a TG element (or elements) coming but I have greatly enjoyed doing the worldbuilding and character definition so it will come a bit later in the narrative. My intention is to post sample chapters up until the moment of the first TG content, which is still another chapter or two off (I think.)
I’m looking to gauge interest in the story and whether “Liam writing fantasy” is something that works (it’s a very different style than I’m used to, but I’m enjoying having fun with it) as well as whether readers will be interested in these early chapters. Being that these are rough drafts, a lot of stuff will be fleshed out or changed later: fine details, the broader world, et cetera.
